It is a hard fact that newspapers and social media influence each other. Most newspapers online have a twitter and facebook following. It has made news reporting more personal and interactive instead of being a one way traffic. This leap has raised some serious concerns as well. Quite often we come across reporter and editors with their tweets or wall posts of their personal opinions. The lines that used to define news as objective, fair and unbiased are getting blur day by day. This is something that needs to be addressed. But the presence on social media is very essential for any newspaper.
Equally strange is the fact that there are still some papers like Star which still don’t have active social media access to its reporters and editors. Personally I believe people are getting more social media savvy and it is important to have all the channels of communication open. Many of us follow the news through the social media network and a low key presence there is low readership.
What is needed is a right blend of newspapers and social media to keep the constant flow of news and views from around the world.
